I bought one of these because I had a slab leak and need to figure out what direction it was coming from. The meter, seems pretty accurate, though, I have nothing else to compare it to. The tool is rather easy to use and even has a battery tester on it to test the power of a 9V. I would recommend this product for someone who is looking for an inexpensive moisture meter. It works well on dry wall and wood. The prongs can be a bit difficult to get into wood, but that is usually a sign that the wood is dry. It served its purpose and helped me find where the leak was coming from. I also lent it to a friend at work who used it to test whether or not he had a leak…It may not have a fancy lcd display, but you really no not need one in this case.

It’s amazing, but you literally can pay 10 times more (over $250!) for a moisture test meter that does the same job as this nifty device for under 30 bucks! The Sonin 50211 Rapitest Moisture Test Meter is not only a bargain, but a vital, handy tool to determine if moisture levels in your wood, rugs, walls etc. are so high that your property is endangered. I bought my Rapitest to make sure when a new pressure-treated deck has dried out enough for me to seal it, and the Rapitest is my guarantee that the sealing will not be rejected by too-wet wood.

This moisture meter has been so helpful around the house, to help monitor water intrusion and thus, prevent mold and damage. It works really well, is easy to use, and is inexpensive!

Awesome product to add to my tool box. I’m a realtor and have hired many professional inspectors and only a few actually have tool (more sophisticated than this one) to measure dampness in walls and floor which could be dry to touch, but expose potential problems. This is a great first line of defense and takes guess work out of diagnosing and repairing water damaged walls/floors (you only have to repair damp areas instead of ripping it all out.).

  5. SusanO

Worked great, I also tried on an log in the wood pile, to me it was dry but not according to the meter. It detected the wall moisture in the plaster walls just fine.

  6. WME

This moisture meter was able to give me the results that I needed for a reasonable price.

  7. Geek Boy Wonder

This does the job- it is perfect for quick evaluations of suspect areas. If you are evaluating fine lumber, there are probably better tools out there, but for checking drywall, framing lumber, etc, this is the best $25 I’ve spent.
    1) Incredibly inexpensive

    2) Very easy to use

    3) Reliable

    4) Rugged

I needed to know how much moisture was in my logs on my house. I did not want to spend alot of money and I found this little gadget. It works great.

  9. Lawrence L Lunt

I’m a paint contractor so it’s important to know and be able to show the customer surfaces are dry enough to paint. I’ve been using a moisture meter I paid around $100 for ten years ago. This meter is at least as accurate. For my purposes it does the job and $25 is a great price. I don’t know how durable it is but for occasional use it feels rugged enough.

I’ve had this product for almost a year, and have had several occasions where I or friends made use of it, and were able to deal with water problems before they became water disasters. Also used it extensively after Hurricane Ike to assure that I had completely dried out my carpet in order to avoid mildew. Something no home owner should be without!

When the water damage estimator came he used a $250 moisture meter. When he stuck the wall and indicated moisture in the wall, I was right behind him and double checked with the Rapitest. It registered every moisture spot that he indicated. I was careful to push the prongs straight in and not at an angle. Pretty effortless. Money well spent.

Great tool. I own Timber Ridge Fence company and have used the meter for many years. Great service when I ordered. Arrived fast and in perfect condition.

  13. A. Walsh

We needed to be able to prove to the plumber that there was a leak in the wall that you could not seen with the naked eye. This product worked perfectly and saved us tons in eventual repair work. Probably not of professional quality but then again we are not professionals.

  14. B. Raymond

Its cheap and it works. I have a video of my testing before installing my solid wood flooring in case any warranty issues pop up.

  15. G.O.M.

Perfect solution for checking the Airstream trailer for leaks. Simple, straightforward, easy to use.
Works as well as the more expensive model it replaces

  16. BOS-DCA

Water goes where it wants! This simple tool has been invaluable in helping us to address water problems that have hit the northern wall our of home, repeatedly drenched by Nor’easters.

  17. Channing Fell

Very useful in an RV.. or anywhere you suspect or need to verify moisture.. simple to use.. probes could be a bit more durable with less blunt tips for deeper penetration through carpeting, etc..

I live in a Co-Op apartment building that self-manages all of its repairs. This year we have had a major issue issue with moisture working its with through the mortar of our three course brick building. The building will be 100 years old in 2015. We have questions about whether the moisture visible on our walls and ceiling was a piping problem or water from the elements. Also when we could see the staining caused by the moisture, we wondered if it was a new or old problem. Well, this very inexpensive and reliable meter has given us a tool to track the moisture in the wall and check for new moisture after a heavy rain or not. I convinced the Board of our Co-Op to purchase two more so that we would have enough on hand to monitor the highest frequency of issues at any one time. Mind you, though, that I found the only 6 volt battery that would work was the Duracell brand. I had tried Eveready unsuccessfully.

  19. Ronald G. Oechsler

This is a very sensitive moisture meter that works well on concrete, cinder blocks, etc. Having the probe on a separate wire is a real plus that lets you measure places you can’t reach otherwise. Recommend it 100% without reservations.

  20. S. Tackett

We purchased this meter to use at work for concrete. It is easy to use and the display is easy to read. We used our meter and the concrete contractor that was onsite with us used their meter. The result was the same but the concrete contractor’s meter cost about $1000. This is a good purchase for a great value.

  21. Beatriz

Easy to use and very accurate. handheld , not heavy.

  22. E. johnson

Bought this to check for moisture in my drywall after some basement water leakage. Works beautifully on drywall. A great bargain.

  23. Slidder

I measured the moisture in various woods (intended purpose), and it appears to register “what I consider to be” good moisture levels. Thanks.

  24. slowolf

Perfect for detecting leaks in my RV. Love it.

  25. Greg Jensen

    Works great

  26. DKing

I use these in my work as a roofing contractor to do repairs and determine the exact areas of a leak. It is very sensitive. Even moisture in your hand will tip the meter. It is very accurate and durable. If you need something to test moisture, this is the best bang for your buck. I would highly recommend.

  27. Lady Jane

wow, great little gadget. used it to test carpet moisture…then everything else

  28. Roger the Lodger

    Works well, my second one.

  29. srocks

I had one of these for years but broke it so bought this as a replacement. Having the prongs on a wire is a big advantage over the other designs when you’re up a ladder or squeezing into tight spaces and can’t always have your head in the right place to read the meter. This overcomes that problem and I wouldn’t be without it.

  30. Julie

I have hidden leaks in my home. Home inspection and a structural engineer were useless. After spending $1000 on them, I figured what’s another thirty some dollars, right? Well I’m too worried about ruining wall paper to push in the spikes, so I just press them flat wise against my walls and bricks where I am looking for moisture. I have found it to be really accurate. I mean I do this before and after rain near windows, plumbing, etc. and it gives the swing in readings, wet to dry again were there actually is a leak. The only thing I can’t get away with on is my wood floors. These have to be fully stabbed and still no real reading, but wood joists were O.K. ’cause they are rough, not polished. The first 9 volt battery is lasting really long. What a great cheap little item if you own an older home.

  31. Karl Hildebrand

I’ve got and old one and a fairly new one. Readings are a slight bit different but for home owner, painter, woodworking it’s close enough. Excellent for price and good tool for home owner.

  32. Inspector Jim

This is the third one I’ve owned over the past 10-12 years. The reason I’ve had three is because they’re used hard and just tossed into my toolbox when I’m finished. Hands down the best Moisture Meter I’ve had……
